This project is to raise awareness about how Asian parents neglect the emotional aspect of children upbringing, and how emotionally unhealthy it is for children. By speaking from children's point of view, it hopes to help and encourage children to speak up about what they are going through emotionally, due to the words and actions of parents. Different products are sold to achieve the objective to raise awareness, guide and encourage parents and children to show love better to each other, therefore lead to deeper emotional intimacy and closer bond. The ultimate goal is to help redefine and rebuild healthier relationships between parents and children.

WHY START
THIS PROJECT?
This project started because I wish there were more appreciation, affection and encouragement within my own family. On a more general level, I wish there was more of these in an Asian household or the world. Because the lack of it can cause a lot of issues and affect children who grow up without it. It’s also a good cycle if parents can show these in a household, then children will also learn and follow in their footsteps, instead of feeling weird to speak encouragement or feel shy to say appreciative things to people around them. However, I am not to saying that Asian parents don’t love their children, it’s just sometimes they show it differently and not the healthiest way possible.

HURT VOICES HEARD
From talking to people around me about their opinions or experiences, I collected genuine stories and sharings. These 20 phrases are taken out of the conversations I personally had with them. 20 designs are made into a set of cards. It hopes to help and encourage children to speak up about what they are going through emotionally, due to the words and actions of parents. By speaking from children’s perspectives, hopefully, parents can realise that paying attention to the emotional aspect of children upbringing is important.
5 LOVE LANGUAGES
Each zine features each of the 5 love languages, hoping to educate and guide parents and children to love each other better and therefore lead to deeper emotional intimacy and closer bond. The 5 love languages are used because it is one of the most straight forwards ways that can improve the relationship between parents and children, by learning to do simple things step by step. According to the book “The Five Love Languages” by Dr Gary Chapman, 5 love languages consists of Acts of service, Quality time, Physical touch, Receiving gifts and Quality time. Even though everyone has a different love language, everyone needs a little of all 5 love languages to feel loved. This is efficient in improving love between people regardless of age.
CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU
Through this photo frame, it serves to encourage children to make a change towards their relationship in the family first. Change can start with anyone and everyone, not only from the parents. At the same time, it serves as a reminder of the importance of healthy love between each other. Thus, with this, parents and children may learn how to embrace each other more.
